Stars on Ice Against Cancer: Israeli Figure Skaters Perform in Scott Hamilton’s Charity Show
On May 2, the city of Simsbury, Connecticut (USA), hosted the grand charity ice show SK8 to ELIMIN8 CANCER. The initiator and main organizer of this inspiring event was traditionally the legendary American figure skater, Olympic gold medalist, and multiple-time World champion Scott Hamilton. The project aims to unite athletes and figure skating fans to raise funds for innovative research and the fight against cancer.
A Line-up of Olympic Champions
That evening, true legends took to the ice at the Simsbury sports center. The highlight of the program was the participation of renowned Olympic champions — the brilliant Ekaterina Gordeeva and the outstanding Viktor Petrenko. Their performances not only gave the audience incredible emotions and nostalgia but also highlighted how important it is for the sports community to unite for a noble cause.
The Israeli Accent of the Charity Initiative
A special reason for pride was the participation of Israeli athletes in the show. Sharing the arena with world-class stars, talents from the Israeli national team demonstrated their skills: figure skaters Tamir Kuperman, as well as Shira Ichilov and Mikhail Nosovitskiy.
The performance of the Israeli figure skaters side by side with recognized legends of world sports is not only a confirmation of their high professional level but also an important contribution to international charity. The athletes delivered vibrant routines and received warm applause from the audience.
Art for Saving Lives
The Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer initiative (a project of the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation) has been helping to "Turn Cancer Upside Down" — the official motto of the foundation — for many years. All funds raised from ticket sales and audience donations in Connecticut are directed toward financing medical research and supporting cancer patients.
The show held on May 2 proved once again: figure skating is more than just a sport. It is a massive unifying force capable of bringing hope, inspiring, and saving lives.
