She trains twice a day and usually gets a waterfall of soft toys after her performances enthused with her beaming smile. Having lived in Akko and traveled to Maalot for training from the age of 6, the 13-year old Yafit Asaf now lives and trains in Metulla looking forward to more competitions in Israel and internationally
-Yafit, you have already tried the ice on home turf and abroad. Where did you find it easier to perform?
-Abroad. When I skate before the home audience, I feel more responsibility because I perform for the people I know. Abroad I feel less stressed.
-Interesting. I have noticed how many soft toys you usually get from the audience. Do you keep them?
-Of course. Even if I don't play with them anymore, I have them as keepsakes in my room.
-Do you have two training sessions a day, like most of our skaters?
-Yes. In the afternoon and in the evening.
-And you favourite element is…
-I like step sequences.
-Are you working on any particular elements for improvement at the moment?
-Right now I am recovering from an injury and it will take me some time to get my form back. No, I am not working on any particular element – just trying to improve on the whole.
-If you could choose now, would you still do figure skating?
-I like figure skating because that's what I have been doing since I was 6. I don't know how I would feel about any other sport if I had dedicated the same time to it.
Coach Tatiana Stolin comments:
-Yafit is hardworking and artistic, but has to work on her physical stamina more to improve overall performance. Half a year ago we started working on double axel and triple salchow, but were sidelined by the injury she sustained not long ago. Hopefully she will be back on form soon.
