Kfir Natan on the beauty of figure skating:
" I think that the ability to tackle a very very difficult element and make it look easy and beautiful enhanced by music and enthused by the spirit of the skater create the magic that simply cannot be ignored."

Q: Kfir, to your mind, what is more difficult – to skate, to coach or to judge?
A: I believe that each of the activities is difficult in its own way, but the skating part is the most difficult one at the end of the day.

Q: Do you think that the new judging system is more objective?
A: I do believe that when the old system was in force, skaters did not always know why they were marked the way they were. The new system enables the skaters and the coaches to understand the mark components better.

Q: Some critics say that the new judging system has made figure skating too technical depriving it of creativity. It's all about the levels of difficulty. What can you say to that?
A: I hope that the ice skating judges will continue to internalize the new system and will attribute more significance to the five components of the second mark. Currently most of the skaters and coaches are trying to raise the level of technical difficulty overlooking the importance of the 5 program components. The judges do not put enough emphasis on the program components either, and we are getting more technically charged but less artistic programs. As long as the judges start relating more to the 5 components, the skaters will also understand their importance.

Q: This question I am asking everybody – the judges, the coaches and the skaters: What makes figure skating such a beautiful sport?
A: I think that the ability to tackle a very, very difficult element and make it look easy and beautiful enhanced by music and enthused by the spirit of the skater creates the magic that simply cannot be ignored.

Q: Thank you very much for your time and answers, Kfir. See you soon as our judge at the next IISF competition.
A: You're very welcome!
