Following six weeks of exciting competition at the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, the top six Skaters/Couples per discipline booked their tickets for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino (ITA), December 8-11, 2022.

Mao Shimada (JPN) and Hana Yoshida (JPN) top the Women’s standings after scoring two victories in their events. Shimada won at the JGP Ostrava (CZE) and JGP Gdansk 2 (POL), while Yoshida topped the podium in the first JGP event in Courchevel (FRA) and the last one in Egna-Neumarkt (ITA).

2022 ISU World Junior silver medallist Jia Shin (KOR) advances with a gold from JGP in Riga and a silver medal to the Final, while Ami Nakai (JPN) made it with a gold and a bronze.

They are joined by Chaeyeon Kim (KOR) and Minsol Kwon (KOR), who each earned a silver and a bronze on the circuit.

Overall 177 Junior Women took part in the Series.

 

Overview of the top six qualified Men

Lucas Broussard (USA) leads the Men’s standings and is the only competitor to have won his two events, striking gold at JGP Gdansk 1 and JGP Egna-Neumarkt.

Nikolaj Memola (ITA) and Shunsuke Nakamura (JPN) qualified with one gold and one silver medal, while Takeru Amine Kataise (JPN) collected a gold and a bronze.

Nozomu Yoshioka (JPN) earned his spot in the Final with a gold medal and fifth-place finish. Robert Yampolsky (USA) grabbed the last spot with a silver and a fourth place.

A total of 111 Junior Men competed on the circuit.

 

Overview of the top six qualified Pairs

Anastasia Golubeva/Hektor Giotopoulos Moore (AUS) are the top qualifiers in the Pairs event and won their two events in Gdansk 1 and 2.

 

Cayla Smith/Andy Deng (USA) collected a gold in Riga and a silver in Ostrava on their way to the Final, while Sophia Baram/Daniel Tioumentsev (USA) got a gold and a bronze in their events.

Violetta Sierova/Ivan Khobta (UKR) proceed with two silver medals and Ava Rae Kemp/Yohnatan Elizarov (CAN) with a silver and fifth place finish. The last spot went to Chloe Panetta/Kieran Thrasher (CAN) with a bronze medal and a fourth place.

Twenty Junior Pairs participated in the series.

 

Overview of the top six qualified Ice Dancers

Ice Dancers Katerina Mrazkova/Daniel Mrazek (CZE) and ISU World Junior bronze medalists Nadiia Bashynska/Peter Beaumont (CAN) came out on top in the Ice Dance standings as they won their two events. Mrazkova/Mrazek earned the title in Ostrava and Egna-Neumarkt, while Bashynska/Beaumont took gold in the two events in Gdansk.

 

Hannah Lim/Ye Quan (KOR) qualified with their gold from Courchevel and silver from Egna-Neumarkt, while Darya Grimm/Michail Savitskiy (GER) secured their spot with gold from Riga and silver from Gdansk 2.

Phebe Bekker/James Hernandez (GBR) booked their ticket to Torino with two silver medals and Celina Fradji/Jean Hans Fourneaux (FRA) picked up a silver and a bronze on their way to the Final.

The top Juniors heading for their first ISU Junior Grand Prix Final

Skaters/Couples representing ten ISU Members will compete in their first ISU Junior Grand Prix Final as all of them have qualified for the first time. Mrazkova/Mrazek, Lim/Quan and Bekker/Hernandez are the first to represent their countries in the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final in the Ice Dance discipline. Moreover, the Czech and the Korean couples are the first to win an ISU Junior Grand Prix title in their discipline. For the first time, Ecuador, Kuwait and Egypt participated in the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating.

The ISU Junior Grand Prix started in August with the event in Courchevel (FRA) and continued in September and October in Ostrava (CZE), Riga (LAT), Gdansk (POL) and Egna-Neumarkt (ITA). The event in Yerevan (ARM) had to be cancelled due to safety concerns and as a consequence the entries were allocated to the three remaining events. Gdansk hosted two events, taking over for Grenoble (FRA) that returned one JGP.

Selection Criteria

A total of 367 young Skaters/Couples from over 50 ISU Members competed in this year’s Series. Each ISU Member is entitled to enter competitors for the Series, while the number of their entries depends on the result of the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships 2022.

Following the IOC recommendation and in order to protect the integrity of ice skating competitions and for the safety of all the participants of international ice skating competitions, the ISU Council based on Article 17.1.q)i) of the ISU Constitution, agreed that with immediate effect and until further notice, no Skaters belonging to the ISU Members in Russia (Russian Skating Union and the Figure Skating Federation of Russia) and Belarus (Skating Union of Belarus) shall be invited or allowed to participate in International ice skating competitions including ISU Championships and other ISU Events. The same applies to Officials listed in the respective ISU Communications and/or Regulations under Russia and Belarus (see ISU Communication 2469).

About ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating

The ISU Junior Grand Prix Figure Skating Series started in 1997. It includes seven events and the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. The Series features some of the up and coming Skaters of the world and provides young skaters aged 13 to 19 (21 for the male Ice Dance and Pair Skating partners) with the opportunity to compete at a high international level. A points system based on the ranking has been established to determine the qualifiers for the ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. Points are obtained according to the results in each of the seven events and only the top six Skaters / Couples in each discipline can qualify for the Final. The ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating is financed by the ISU Development Program.

Since 2011 all events of the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating are live streamed on the official ISU Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating YouTube Channel.
